Heineken Hoek
Amsterdam (NL)
Leidseplein, also known as Leiden Square, is a vital gathering spot in Amsterdam, lively with locals and visitors. Currently, a new building is under construction, impacting the charm of this historic square. We believe the proposed design is unsuitable for such a prominent location and risks compromising the square's beauty. Moreover, it may set a precedent for unattractive developments in historic areas. While we can't alter the current project, the extensive media coverage provides an opportunity to spark a conversation about the type of architecture we desire in our cities. Our aim is to highlight the importance of preserving beauty in urban design and to garner support for more aesthetically pleasing architecture in Amsterdam. In our view, this competition is a unique opportunity to show Amsterdam what else is possible! Text from Architectuur Omslag.
The design has been mentioned twice in the Dutch newspaper Het Parool and here.
