SSP Hal & DRU Toren

DRU Industriepark, Ulft (NL)

The SSP Hal is the final monument of the DRU Industriepark to be reconstructed. In order to revitalize the former cast iron factory, the program of demands included adding a hotel and cultural program. A wooden hollow core roof and various box-in-box constructions have been designed to preserve the rough industrial character, whilst improving its climate and technical conditions. Such as the event hall at the end of the formerly large production hall and the foyer. The cultural program of the production halls are connected with the newly proposed gardens and event square. The foyer includes a hydroponic wall that grows herbs, fruits and vegetables for the restaurant, referring to the genius loci of the industrial and agricultural Achterhoek. To comply with the demands of the spatial programming, an extension has been added on top of the Koepeloven, together forming the exhibition spaces. For the hotel, a new tower in the shape of a chimney, the DRU Toren, was added next to the SSP Hal. The extensions are made of masonry and cast iron faƧades, which refers to their context and former production process.
